Another day, another casualty.
Completed my SPA examination today; the first of all the subsequent A levels paper.
Anyway, str8 to the point...
Studied quite hard the day before, and I expected to complete the paper without much difficulties.
Yet the very moment I begin the exam,I ran into some problem. I poured the titrant FA3 into the burette as usual; i was just beginning the experiment. Ominously,I sensed something wrong but could not figure what was wrong. I stared intently at the burette for a few seconds, watching the liquid slip down the volume marking...50cm3,49cm3,48cm3.... with 'h' being the height of the titrant, and dh/dt being -1.2cm/s. I was trying to ascertain what my eyes had perceived. The burette clip was not working! I had to refill my burette while asking for another cliper. I had to cover the opening of the burette using my thumb, and the titrant just sprayed like a fountain. ...............
Replaced my clip and I was back on task. This time round, I ran into yet another problem. The clip was too hard and whenever I pinched the clip, a whole stream of titrant would be released. How am I going to do an accurate titration towards the end point... Had to use my thumb to pinch the rubber tubing, using my thumb as a clip on top of the clipper. Was glad I averted the other remaining problems and completed my paper 10 mins before time was up.
Many of my friends encountered worst problems than me... My friend Jia QI who was behind me had to replace 3 clippers before replacing the whole burette. The condition of the school is really jeopardizing the students' grades, clearly putting us at a disadvantage. Well, I guess that's sort of expected when AJ is helmed by an old widow.
I really have to count my blessings that I emerged from this fiasco unharmed.
